Maserati GranTurismo: La Dolce Vita, Electrified
Maserati's return to the grand touring formula with the new GranTurismo has been received as the finest design from Modena in at least twenty years. The proportions — long bonnet, fastback roofline, wide haunches — are pure Italian sports car, executed with a restraint and sophistication that the brand lost during its partnership years and has found again. Opulent Exotics sources new Maserati GranTurismo examples for clients in Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra Beach, and across Northeast Florida.
Two Powertrains: Trofeo V6 and Folgore Electric
The GranTurismo is available with two fundamentally different powertrains. The Trofeo uses the Nettuno twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 producing 550 bhp — the same engine family as the GranCabrio Trofeo — with a top speed of 198 mph and a 0–60 time of 3.5 seconds. The exhaust note at full throttle is widely cited as one of the finest sounds in the current automotive landscape: angular, rasping, and genuinely musical at 7,500 rpm.
The Folgore variant is entirely different — three electric motors (one front, two rear) producing a combined 761 bhp and reaching 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. The Folgore GranTurismo is not a hybrid: it has no combustion engine. The experience is one of absolute immediate torque delivery — a silent surge that pins occupants to their seats with a force that the Trofeo V6, for all its drama, cannot match on an objective measure.
GranTurismo Design: Why It Matters
The previous GranTurismo — the M139, produced 2007–2019 — was praised for its Ferrari 612 Scaglietti-derived proportions and natural aspiration. The new GranTurismo builds on that legacy with completely original proportions developed by Maserati Centro Stile. The side profile, with its low roofline and elongated bonnet, is the design that automotive journalists consistently cite when asked what they find most beautiful in the current market.
