McLaren Artura Buyer's Guide: Coupe vs Spider and Which to Buy in Florida

The Artura is the most important McLaren in a generation, because it's the first truly clean-sheet car the company built after the 12C-derived family that started it all. Everything is new: a new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) tub, a new 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, a new eight-speed gearbox, and a hybrid system with a compact battery and electric motor. It's McLaren's statement of where the supercar goes next — and, crucially, it's the entry point to the modern McLaren range.

The numbers tell the story of the engineering rather than the spec-sheet arms race. The V6-plus-electric powertrain produces around 671 horsepower in the original car (later updated upward), with a few miles of silent electric running and instant low-rev torque fill from the e-motor. It delivers performance in the same conversation as the old 720S, but with a more refined, better-built cabin and the everyday flexibility of the hybrid system.

Which Artura to Buy

  • Coupe vs Spider: The Spider adds a retractable hardtop with minimal weight penalty thanks to the carbon tub — the natural choice for open-top Florida driving. The coupe is marginally lighter and slightly keener; the Spider is more usable and typically holds a premium.
  • Build date matters more than on most cars: early Arturas had well-documented software and minor teething issues that McLaren addressed through updates. Favor later builds, or earlier cars confirmed to have received the full slate of updates.
  • Updated cars / later model years: McLaren raised power and refined the software over the car's life — a later, fully updated Artura is meaningfully more resolved.
  • The packs: look for the Technology and Practicality packs (which add genuinely useful daily features) and the upgraded audio.

What to Inspect

Because the Artura was an all-new car, software currency and service history matter even more than usual.

  • Full McLaren service history is non-negotiable, with confirmation that all applicable software and hardware updates have been carried out.
  • Verify the hybrid battery and high-voltage system health and the latest software version.
  • Confirm the carbon MCLA tub is free of any prior accident repair.
  • Front-axle lift is essential in Florida — confirm it's fitted and working. Look for the Technology and Practicality packs, carbon packages, and the premium audio.
  • Inspect nose and leading edges for stone damage and the condition of any paint-protection film.

Living With One in Northeast Florida

The Artura is arguably the most livable McLaren yet. The hybrid system lets you creep out of a neighborhood in near silence, the cabin is quieter and better finished than the 720S generation, and the smaller V6 makes the car feel slightly more wieldy in town. On the run down A1A or out to Amelia Island it's comfortable enough for real distance, and the Spider's roof transforms a coastal evening. Expect to find them in Ponte Vedra and the coastal enclaves, often as a second car alongside something more practical.

Two rules apply, as with any modern McLaren in Florida: front lift for the driveways and speed bumps, and a climate-controlled garage for the heat and humidity. Keep the software current and the service stamps complete, and the Artura is a genuinely usable everyday-capable supercar.

What They're Worth

Artura values in Florida generally run from the high $100,000s for earlier coupes to the high $200,000s for low-mileage, fully updated Spider examples. As the entry to the current McLaren range, it offers a lot of next-generation supercar for the money. Later, fully updated cars and Spiders have the more confident outlook; early cars are the value play, provided the updates have been done.

With the Artura, the right car is defined by build date, update history, and specification — details that are easy to miss on a dealer lot.
